It was love at first bark.
Sleek was adopted when he was about one year old, but from the moment he came into my life, it felt like he had always belonged there.
He was stubborn, lovable, warm, and full of personality. He had long ears, a little doorknob - kind - of-tail, and the most beautiful caramel honey-brown eyes. He was impossible not to love.
From the beginning, we were inseparable, Sleek never left my sight - or my side. He mimicked my howling, played hide -and-seek with me, and loved jumping on my back for piggyback rides while I ran through the living room carrying him.
He was more than a dog.
He was my loyal companion, my shadow, my comfort, my son - my "Monkey".
Sleek taught me a kind of love that grows deeper with every day. The kind of love that stays through the happy moments, the hard moments, and all the quiet moments in between.
Even though he is no longer physically by my side, his presence has never left me.
